Following the passing of the bill that seeks to legalize gambling in Brazil by the members of the National Development Special Committee of the Senate, Brazilian Tourism Minister Marx Beltrao defended in London the opening of the South American giant to foreign investors.
“The Ministry of Tourism looks very favorably at the legalization of casinos, as it already exist in various parts of the world,” he said, citing the Bahamas among places where gambling is legal.
Beltrao presented his support for the project during the Latin American Investment Forum 2016 (Laif) seminar, which was held on Thursday morning at the Brazilian embassy in London.
The proposal approved Wednesday, now continues for discussion in the Plenary. The topic also has the support of Senate President Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), who placed it at the beginning of the semester as a priority.
Writed by Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI), the project establishes the role of games that can be exploited in the national territory. Among them are casinos, bingos, fixed odds bets, electronic bets, “jogo do bicho” and sweepstake, a kind of lottery related to horse races.
For the draftsman of the project, Senator Bezarra Coelho (PSB-PE), the legalization of gambling may generate R $ 29 billion in taxes for the government in the next three years.
